good dog
Training is the thing that can make or break your relationship with your dog.
Without training, you will be left feeling frustrated, tired, annoyed, and wondering why you’re not experiencing the joys of having a dog that everyone else seems to have. Walks aren’t enjoyable when your arm is being pulled out of its socket, or you’re standing in a field in the rain, late for work, wondering where the hell your dog has buggered off to now. Having visitors over just becomes embarrassing when your dog is constantly jumping up at them, or jumping up at the table, or just can’t seem to calm down and settle. You just seem to spend most of your time telling your dog off which you then feel guilty about later.
Training gives you a toolkit of desirable things you can ask your dog to do instead of the undesirable things he so enjoys. This helps you feel more confident as your dog becomes more manageable.
Over time, your dog becomes more responsive and he spends much less time doing the undesirable things, and when he does do them, you can interrupt him easily and ask him to do something else instead.
Then you start to enjoy spending time with again. You look forward to walks, you don’t worry about taking him to the pub, or having visitors over.
And, guess what?
YOU become that person every other dog guardian is looking at thinking ‘why isn’t my dog like that?’

Most frequent questions and answers
I tend to think of training as teaching your dog how to exist in your world, training manners like coming back when called, walking nicely, not jumping up, being able to settle. Training can also extend to teaching your dog skills like agility, scent detection, hoopers, trick training etc – it’s all about teaching your dog how to do stuff. If you just need help with basic training like loose lead walking, recall, not jumping up, teaching your dog to settle etc then you need a Training Package. Behaviour work is for the dogs who are struggling with aspects of their life – they’re demonstrating big feelings and maybe big behaviours to go with it. You might describe their feelings as worry, anxiety, fearfulness, frustration, over-excited; you might use the words aggressive or reactive. You might describe their behaviours as lunging, barking, growling, snapping, jumping, mouthing, biting. At the other end of the scale, you might say your dog seems scared and runs away, cowers or hides. If any of these sound like your dog, you need a Behaviour Package.
In your home predominantly, although later sessions may be taken out to a quiet public space to practise your training ‘in the wild’.
Nope. Working with a trainer is a partnership – I do my best to give you the skills and information you need to help your dog, you do your best to implement the training and advice provided. I can give you all the advice in the world but if it isn’t followed through then it won’t work. You are the one who lives with your dog 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 52 weeks of the year so you are the one who is best placed to implement the changes needed. It’s a bit like working with a Personal Trainer or having music or language lessons. If you only train/practice in the one hour a week that you are with your trainer/teacher and you do nothing outside of that hour, you aren’t going to see much progress. You will also probably become fed up or frustrated and finally give up. It’s the same with dog training…
No, but it is better value for money if you do. My Training Package has been designed based on years of experience of what is really needed to achieve good results. Payment Plans are available on request.
I am science-backed and reward-based. I do not use tools designed to inflict pain or fear. The welfare of your dog is at the heart of everything I do.
I am a COAPE Animal Behaviourist (CCAB); ISCP Level 6 Advanced Canine Practitioner (ISCP Adv.Canine.Prac); Dynamic Dog Practitioner; ProDog Trainer (Absolute Dogs). I achieved all qualifications at Distinction level and often at the top of the class. I am a member of ICAN, CABTi, UK Dog Behaviour & Training Charter, and the Association of Dynamic Dog Practitioners – all of these organisations require that I undertake regular annual CPD to ensure my knowledge remains up to date and relevant.
I cover South Oxfordshire and West Berkshire primarily. Movement MOTs can be conducted anywhere in the world as they are entirely online.
